History

Founded in 2012 PlayShop is now one of Wellington's most active improv troupes.
Picture
PlayShop was founded as a student led improv company in Wellington, 2012 by Daniel Pengelly. Now led by Dr. Lori Leigh, PlayShop has been around for almost seven years and is one of the most influential improvisational comedy groups in New Zealand. With over 40 members, PlayShop creates opportunities for people to experience the joy of playful interaction through theatre, storytelling, education, and improvisation. It encourages it’s performers to be risk-takers, open to the potential of every moment and is very focused on training and supporting its members to create meaningful stories and performances for audiences in Wellington.

Our Mission

PlayShop is continuously developing and growing. As a company PlayShop aligns itself with aims and values that ensure an all inclusive and supportive environment for its members and community. • All members support and encourage one another
  • Be accessible to all people; not just theatre goers
  • Allow opportunities to be uplifted through working with professionals
  • Telling stories as a company
